Susan G. Komen Greater Detroit is the local resource for women who need breast cancer screening, diagnostic and support services. Through annual events including the Race for the Cure and individual contributions, Komen Greater Detroit raises funds that enable women to detect and survive breast cancer.
Seventy-five percent of all funds raised by the Affiliate stay in our service area to fund breast health programs for women who would not otherwise have access to screening and treatment in our service area of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. Since our first Race for the Cure in 1992, Komen Greater Detroit has raised more than $29 million in local breast health and breast cancer awareness projects in our tri-county service area. Twenty-five percent of funds raised supports the Susan G. Komen® Grants Program.
Despite these great accomplishments, there is more work to be done. In 2017, an estimated 2,800 new cases of breast cancer are projected in Michigan this year. Plus, our tri-county service area has higher rates of both late stage diagnosis and death than the rest of Michigan and the nation. We will not stop fighting until we fulfill Komen’s vision: A world without breast cancer.
